How to Schedule Baking, Decorating, and Packing

Work backward from pickup times while respecting cooling, resting, and decorating dependencies.

Work backward from handoff

Start with pickup or delivery, then place packing, decorating, cooling, baking, resting, and preparation in dependency order.

Reserve the bottleneck

Oven space, mixer bowls, refrigerator shelves, cooling racks, and focused decorating time can limit capacity before total hours do.

Worked example

Educational example: a 3:00 PM pickup needs 30 minutes packing, 90 minutes decorating, and two hours cooling. Baking must finish by 11:00 AM, before adding prep and oven time.

Avoid perfect-fit plans

Leave a visible buffer for cleanup, late cooling, equipment changes, and handoff. A schedule using every minute has no recovery path.

Put it into practice.

Use your own verified receipts and label every example as an estimate.
