How to Price a Dozen Cookies, Including Packaging and Labor

Build a dozen-cookie price from the actual sellable yield and a visible target margin.

Cost the sellable dozen

Cost the recipe from verified package prices, then include mixing, portioning, baking, cooling, packing, labels, and the actual number of cookies you can sell.

Worked example

Educational example: $8.40 ingredients + $12 labor + $3.60 packaging + $2 overhead = $26 for 12 cookies, or $2.17 each. At a 35% target margin, the calculated dozen price is $40.00 after sensible rounding.

Check the market later

Your cost sets the floor; it does not prove customers will accept the result. Test product size, channel fees, local demand, and positioning separately without hiding a loss.

Avoid yield shortcuts

A recipe that sometimes yields 14 does not justify dividing by 14 if two are consistently damaged or used for photos. Use a repeatable sellable yield.

Put it into practice.

Use your own verified receipts and label every example as an estimate.
