How to Check Whether Wholesale Baking Prices Are Profitable
Test the real contribution of a volume order before accepting a lower per-item price.
Start with the real unit cost
Include product, packaging required by the buyer, extra labels, case packing, delivery, administration, and any marketplace or payment fee.
Worked example
Educational example: a cookie costs $1.85 and the wholesale price is $2.35, leaving $0.50 contribution. An order of 60 contributes $30 before fixed costs; decide whether that return justifies the production slot.
Validate the volume promise
Discounts make sense only when volume reliably reduces work or waste. Small repeated invoices, custom packing, and strict delivery windows may increase cost instead.
Avoid retail comparisons alone
A wholesale price is not automatically half retail. Compare contribution, capacity, payment timing, returns, and minimum order quantity.
Use your own verified receipts and label every example as an estimate.
